- When is a Pokémon card worth grading?
- When the slab sells for enough more than the raw card to cover the grading fee, shipping both ways and eBay's selling fee, at a grade you can realistically expect. A card that only profits as a PSA 10 is a gamble: most submissions come back a 9 or lower. A good rule is to grade when a PSA 9 still makes money and a PSA 8 doesn't lose much.
- Where do I find PSA 10, 9 and 8 prices?
- Search the exact card on eBay with the grade (for example "Dark Machamp 10/82 PSA 9"), then filter to Sold items. Use the typical price of the last few sales, not the highest one, and check they're the same printing (1st Edition, shadowless, holo or reverse) as your card.
- How do I estimate my odds of a PSA 10?
- Look at the card under bright light: corners, edges, surface scratches and whitening on the back, and centering (PSA 10 allows about 55/45 front, 75/25 back). Modern pack-fresh cards hit 10 far more often than vintage. If you're unsure, leave the odds blank and judge from the PSA 9 and PSA 8 rows.
- What does the calculator count as cost?
- The raw card including the shipping you paid, the sales tax on it, the grading fee and your shipping to and from the grader. Each grade's net is the slab's sale price minus eBay's fee (13.25% to $7,500 on the total incl. tax, plus $0.30/$0.40 per order), ship-out and that cost.
An estimate, not financial advice. Grading fees, turnaround and slab prices change; check current ones before you submit.
